Every game must have a winner and a loser; however, not every game has two hard fighting teams equally deserving of a victory.
On November 28, Allen faced Arlington Martin in an epic showdown between two of Texas’ best. In the end, it was the state’s top-ranked team, Allen, that walked away with the 69-54 victory, but Martin battled valiantly throughout the contest, giving the Eagles a difficult challenge in the Conference 6A Division 1 regional finals.
The Warriors looked on top form early on, going score-for-score with Allen, even leading 21-19 at halftime. Martin continued to produce offensively in the second half, adding 33 points to their tally. Nonetheless, the Eagles found a way to get through Martin’s defense as Allen’s 22- and 28-point third and fourth quarter, respectively, proved too much to handle.
Allen’s offensive prowess came from a familiar face, Kyler Murray, who was involved in six of the Eagles’ seven touchdowns. The senior quarterback tossed 93 yards and two scores on 10-of-20 completions. Cody Butler was on the receiving end of both TDs and finished with four receptions for 30 yards.
On top of that, Murray added 198 yards and four touchdowns on just nine rushes. Keon Williams joined Murray on an excellent ground game, as the back gained 146 yards and a score on 11 carries.
This sets up Allen for its next challenge, 22nd rank in the DigitalSports National Football Rankings and 3rd in Texas, Trinity. This quarterfinal match will be held on December 6 at 2:00pm.
